Mauritius ranges from affordable to luxury. Budget travellers can manage on $60–80/day using guesthouses and local eateries. Luxury resorts start at $200–500/night.

Carry a mix: Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at resorts, malls, and larger restaurants, and contactless tap-and-pay is standard in 2026, but only about a third of retailers accept cards, so cash (Mauritian Rupee) is essential at markets, street-food stalls, and small shops. UPI has been live in Mauritius since 2024, so Indian travellers can scan and pay at QR-enabled merchants. Note that Indian RuPay cards are generally not accepted at Mauritius ATMs, which typically charge 100-200 MUR per withdrawal on top of your home-bank fees, so bring a Visa or Mastercard for cash access.
